Since the beginnings of the Schwan Family, an Aecynis would descend from above and provide a new offspring to carry the next line in the family tree. Aecynis was born to fulfil the destiny of this sacred tradition, a tradition that is only known by the elders of the family. As Evelyn's destined partner, Achelous was born on the same day and time as Evelyn to celebrate their destined bond. His entire identity was built on the foundation that he would be the father to Evelyn's offspring. And if destiny crumbles before him, he holds it together in stubbornness.
Achelous is dedicated and resolute, unwavering from his righteous ideals. He believes he must follow the order of the Aecycni, unwilling to change from the sacred traditions. Although he finds it difficult to express emotions, Achelous is direct and honest, reliable to those who need help. In an unhealthy state, Achelous becomes obsessed with the imperfections and wrongdoings of others, deeming himself to be higher than them. He grows impatient, angry and dissatisfied unless it is according to his guidelines.
Whenever Evelyn studied, ate, drank, and slept, the Aecynci instructed Achelous to do the same. This order was a necessity for the future of the kingdom, an order that Achelous could not disobey. After living his childhood through her routines, it became accustomed for him to mimic her lifestyle, even to the point of observing Evelyn from above for any possible changes. The Aecynci deem marriage to be the purest form of harmony between the Aecynci and Schwan. Therefore, they must prepare it as such. Achelous strictly adheres to his routine in an attempt to synchronise himself with Evelyn and prove his worth as her future husband.
From time to time, the Aecynci spoke the word of soulmate to Achelous. “You are the moon to Evelyn Schwan. For her, she is the sun to you. That is what it means to be soulmates.” As Achelous looked down at Evelyn from the moonlit clouds above, he told himself such distance was necessary to maintain balance, until the wedding brings them to eclipse. While he waited, Achelous was taught that he must follow her routine to maintain his soulmate sync with Evelyn. However, he never fully understood what it meant to be someone’s soulmate, or the concept of love, for that matter. He only assumes the emotion based on his connection with Evelyn. Since his only connection with Evelyn is through his routine, Achelous believes the satisfaction of obeying the Aecynci to be the feeling of love. Yet, on rare nights, he’d wonder what love is without them.
